Bonnie Friedman is passionate about patient advocacy, especially when loved ones are hospitalized. Her expertise is hard won, based on more than 24 years of advocating for her husband Bob through 14 separate hospitalizations—some routine, some dramatic and some truly life-and-death experiences. Through it all, Bonnie learned to become a tough and sometimes fierce fighter within the healthcare system.

Bob’s health problems started with a heart attack when their children were young. Bonnie says that neither of them was prepared, nor could they imagine that “this seemingly healthy man—six feet tall, strong and robust—would face a series of life-threatening illnesses that would periodically send shock waves through our lives and threaten his very existence.”

Today Bob is thriving, and Bonnie is sharing her experience through speaking, blogging and podcasting to help others get the best care for their loved ones too.

She speaks to her readers as friends, telling them, “This book is for you. I hope that you can benefit from my experiences and my mistakes to help your loved one get the best hospital care possible.”

Before writing Hospital Warrior, Bonnie created her own communications consulting firm, specializing in public, non-profit and small business clients. The consultancy grew from her many years of working for the federal government in a variety of positions including Communications Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Director of Marketing of the Small Business Administration.

She began her career at the National Institutes of Health after graduating from American University in Washington, D.C. Bonnie is the recipient of numerous professional honors and awards. She is also an accomplished public speaker, blogger and podcaster.

Bonnie and her husband Bob have two grown children and a grandson. They live in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Bradenton, Florida, and enjoy traveling, spending time with family, reading, biking and going to the beach.
